Plan your evaluation strategy across all four levels before you build your training.

The Evaluation Trap

Most organizations only measure Level 1 (Smile Sheets) and Level 2 (Quizzes). While these are easy to measure, they provide zero proof that the training impacted the business. To prove ROI to stakeholders, you must plan how you will measure Level 3 (Behavior Change) and Level 4 (Business Results) before you launch the training.

Level 1: Reaction

Did the learners find the training engaging, relevant, and useful?

Level 2: Learning

Did the learners actually acquire the intended knowledge, skills, or attitudes?

Level 3: Behavior

Are the learners applying what they learned back on the job?

Level 4: Results

Did the behavioral changes positively impact the organization's goals?
