Learning media that earns its place

Most L&D video fails for one of three reasons: it's too long, it tries to teach too many things at once, or it's so obviously low-production that learners disengage before the first minute is up. The solution isn't a bigger budget — it's better instructional design applied to the production process from the start.

Sodema applies the same evidence-based design principles to video and media as we do to eLearning. Every asset starts with a clear performance objective and a script reviewed against Mayer's Multimedia Learning principles before a single frame is recorded.

What we produce

Our production process

1

Brief & objective setting

What do learners need to do after watching? What's the one thing this video must communicate? We start with the behaviour, not the topic.

2

Script writing

A full narration script with scene-by-scene visual instructions. Paced for the target duration, checked against Flesch-Kincaid readability, and reviewed by your SME before recording.

3

Recording & production

Screen recording (Camtasia/OBS), audio production, and post-production with annotations, callouts, lower thirds, and background music where appropriate. All footage follows your brand guidelines.

4

Review & revisions

One structured review cycle with SME and stakeholder feedback collected in a standardised template — not via email chains. Two revision rounds included in standard scope.

5

Delivery

MP4 export optimised for LMS/LXP upload, web embedding, or internal distribution. Captions file (SRT/VTT) included. Source project file handed over for future edits.

Frequently asked questions

Research consistently shows retention drops sharply after 6 minutes for uninterrupted video. We design for 3–6 minutes per module as a default. If the content requires more, we break it into a series of short videos rather than one long one. Our free Script Timer tool helps you check your script against target duration before recording.

We can recommend professional VO artists or work with AI text-to-speech tools (ElevenLabs, Azure Neural TTS) for budget-conscious projects. The choice depends on your quality requirements, audience expectations, and budget. We'll advise on what makes sense for your specific project.

Yes, if we produced the original. We hand over source files, so your team can also update in-house if they have Camtasia. For significant re-records, we scope as a new project. Our modular production approach is designed to minimise re-work when one section changes.

Primarily Camtasia for screencasts and annotated tutorials. For more complex post-production we use DaVinci Resolve. All software recordings can be done directly from your system (via remote session sharing) if on-screen accuracy to your specific environment is required.
